Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed is a well-known Pakistani politician recognized for his fiery speeches, straightforward political views, and a career spanning several decades. Born on November 6, 1950, in Rawalpindi, he has been an influential figure in Pakistan’s political landscape, serving in various ministerial positions and being a vocal critic of different governments.  

Early Life and Political Beginnings 

Sheikh Rasheed received his early education from Rawalpindi and later graduated from Gordon College. He pursued law and earned a degree from Punjab University. His political journey began in student politics, where he was actively involved in movements against authoritarian rule. His ability to connect with the masses and his sharp oratory skills quickly made him a prominent figure in Pakistani politics. 

In the 1980s, Sheikh Rasheed became a member of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and was elected to the National Assembly for the first time in 1985. He remained associated with different factions of the PML throughout the years and held various ministerial positions under different governments.

Sheikh Rasheed has served as a minister in multiple governments, holding key portfolios such as Railways, Information, and Labor. His tenure as the Minister for Railways, particularly under the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from 2018 to 2022, was one of the most notable. He introduced several reforms, launched new train services, and aimed to modernize Pakistan Railways. 

Before joining PTI, Sheikh Rasheed was a close ally of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif but later parted ways to form his own party, Awami Muslim League (AML), in 2008. Despite being the leader of a small party, he maintained a significant influence due to his strong media presence and ability to remain relevant in the country’s dynamic political environment. 

 Association with Imran Khan and PTI 

In the later years of his career, Sheikh Rasheed became a strong supporter of Imran Khan and PTI. He played an active role in the party’s 2018 election campaign and was later appointed Minister for Railways in Imran Khan’s cabinet. During this period, he remained one of the most vocal supporters of the PTI government and frequently appeared on media channels to defend its policies.
