 Kamran Tessori: A Controversial Political Journey 

Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori, born on May 5, 1974, in Karachi, Pakistan, is a prominent politician and businessman currently serving as the 30th Governor of Sindh since October 10, 2022. He is affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) and has had a dynamic career marked by both achievements and controversies.  

 Early Life and Business Ventures 

Belonging to the Tessori family, renowned for their international gold business "Tessori Gold," Kamran Tessori ventured into the family enterprise, establishing himself as a successful businessman. His endeavors in the gold industry provided him with a substantial foundation, which later facilitated his entry into the political arena. 

 Political Career 

Tessori's political journey commenced with the Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) (PML-F) in 2013. Leveraging his connections with the then Chief Minister of Sindh, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, he became a close aide and gained prominence within the party. 

In 2017, he transitioned to MQM-P, where he was swiftly appointed to the party's Rabita Committee, reflecting his rising influence. However, his rapid ascent led to internal conflicts, notably with senior leader Farooq Sattar, culminating in Tessori's six-month suspension for allegedly leaking sensitive party information to the media. Disillusioned, he resigned from MQM-P in April 2018 and briefly joined the Pak Sarzameen Party.  

In a surprising turn, Tessori rejoined MQM-P in September 2022 and was appointed as the Deputy Convener of the Rabita Committee. Shortly thereafter, he was nominated and approved as the Governor of Sindh, assuming office on October 10, 2022.  

 Controversies and Legal Challenges 

Tessori's career has been marred by several controversies. In 2008, he was arrested for his alleged involvement in a real estate land scam concerning the illegal allotment of 80 acres of a historical graveyard for a housing project named Gold City. During a transfer from Karachi to Badin, he escaped police custody amid a shootout, leading to additional legal charges. 

Furthermore, in 2017, the National Accountability Bureau initiated an inquiry into a Rs172.3 million default case against him. The same year, MQM-P's Faisal Subzwari insinuated that Tessori attempted to leverage his wealth to influence party decisions, aiming for a Senate ticket. 

In 2018, a Dubai-based gold trader accused him of involvement in a gold fraud case, prompting an approach to the Federal Investigation Agency for action. 

 Governorship and Public Engagement 

As the Governor of Sindh, Tessori has sought to redefine the role by actively engaging with the public. Despite the limited constitutional powers of the gubernatorial office, he has initiated various programs aimed at uplifting the underprivileged and addressing public grievances. His hands-on approach and accessibility have earned him the moniker of the "first Awami governor of Sindh," reflecting his popularity among the masses. 

 Personal Life 

An ethnic Muhajir, Tessori is the sole politician in his family. His background in business and subsequent political endeavors highlight a trajectory marked by ambition and resilience. While his career has faced challenges, his current role as Governor signifies a significant milestone in his journey.
